The following sermon was preached by Rev. Calum I. Macleod on the Sabbath Morning, 26th of July, 2009. A sinful woman in the house of the Pharisee. What a privilege to have Christ as a visitor. But Gospel privileges cannot save a soul. In the house of God we privileged to feast on the Gospel banquet that is set before us each Lord’s Day. Christ is in our midst, and wonderful though His presence is, we cannot put our trust in this privilege. This woman was blessed with Christ’s forgiveness and assurance when she had come to know Him in a living and personal relationship. Unlike Simon, the Pharisee, this woman was no spectator. She loved her Saviour and Lord with a great love and showed that love in all her actions. How do you view Jesus?
The text is Luke 7:37-38… And, behold, a woman in the city, which was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat at meat in the Pharisee’s house, brought an alabaster box of ointment, And stood at his feet behind him weeping, and began to wash his feet with tears, and did wipe them with the hairs of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment.
