The following sermon was preached by Rev. Calum I. Macleod on the Sabbath Morning, 2nd of August, 2009. Do you struggle in your prayers to God with situations in life that are bigger than you can handle? We know that there is no one else to whom we can go in prayer but so much of our prayer appears to be unheard and unanswered. Here in this passage; as The Lord shows Himself to be the only true and living God, there is a contrast between the God honouring prayer of Elijah and the false, but extremely religious, prayer of the Baal worshippers.
The text is 1Kings 18:38-39… Then the fire of the LORD fell, and consumed the burnt sacrifice, and the wood, and the stones, and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench. And when all the people saw it, they fell on their faces: and they said, The LORD, he is the God; the LORD, he is the God.
