The following sermon was preached by Rev. Calum I. Macleod on the Sabbath Evening 4th October 2009. Lot was a righteous man but his worldliness was a vexation to his soul and by small degrees his life became more and more immersed in the wretchedness of Sodom. This sermon is picture of God’s grace in the midst of judgement but it is also a warning to those who profess faith in Christ and yet long to be the friends of this sinful world. Only three souls were saved on that day, dragged from the city and blindly unaware of God’s anger. Is it not written. “a friend of the world is the enemy of God.”
The text is Genesis 19:29…And it came to pass, when God destroyed the cities of the plain, that God remembered Abraham, and sent Lot out of the midst of the overthrow, when he overthrew the cities in the which Lot dwelt.
he overthrew the cities in the which Lot dwelt.
