The following sermon was preached by Rev. Calum I. Macleod on the Sabbath Morning 4th October 2009. In this 18th chapter of Genesis The Lord reiterates His promises to Abraham, the friend of God, but he and Sarah can hardly believe how gracious God is. Oh, is anything to hard for The Lord? If we believe Christ’s promises we too are accounted to be His friends. He also revealed His mind to Abraham with regard to Sodom. Why? Because He knew that Abraham would be faithful in teaching all coming generations to keep the ways of the LORD. And, finally, Abraham teaches us how to pray. He intercedes with The Lord to save sinners (six times he pleads for them) and we know that He saved Lot; but the Sodomites had spurned the warnings of God and their time of judgement had arrived.
The text is Genesis 18:23…And Abraham drew near, and said, Wilt thou also destroy the righteous with the wicked?
