The following sermon was preached by Rev. Calum I. Macleod on the Sabbath Morning 11th October 2009. Before Jesus laid down his life at Calvary sorrow filled the hearts of the apostles. He had to teach them that often addition comes through subraction. Jesus had to lay down His life to purchase our peace but having done so He promised to send to us another Comforter, whom the world cannot know. Only those born of The Spirit can know His blessings. The Holy Spirit is our teacher, bringing to our rememberance the words of Christ; enlightening our minds in the truth. The peace of God is ours by His Spirit but above all this His love is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.
The text is John 14:16-18…And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.
I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter
