The following sermon was preached by Rev. Calum I. Macleod on the Sabbath Evening 11th October 2009. We live in the Pentecostal age; The Holy Spirit, The Comforter of God is at work in the hearts of men and His overarching mission is to reveal Christ. But in order to show men their need of Christ He first convinces them of their sinfulness and that there is a judgement to come. The Holy Spirit convinces the self righteous man that he has no righteousnes of his own and that the sin of unbelief; of rejecting Christ and His Gospel is the greatest sin of all. Has The Spirit of God convinced you that you need Christ and that you also need His righteousness?
The text is John 16:5-11…But now I go my way to him that sent me; and none of you asketh me, Whither goest thou? But because I have said these things unto you, sorrow hath filled your heart. Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: Of sin, because they believe not on me; Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more; Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.
he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment
