The following sermon was preached by Rev. Calum I. Macleod on the Sabbath Evening 18th October 2009. The self-righteous man says he does not need a saviour from sin and the intellectual says it is not rational. The preaching of the Gospel, to them, is foolishness but Gods methods are so different from ours. Man cannot see that the wisdom of this world is actually foolishness in the eyes of God. He chose the seemingly foolish things of this world to confound the wise. But, the preaching of the Gospel is a power; not only addressed to the intellect but the unseen Spirit also is at work in our stubborn hearts. What of your heart dear reader? Have you come to see the wisdom of God in the Gospel of Christ?
The text is 1 Corinthians 1:17-18…For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect. For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.
For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness
