The following sermon was preached by Rev. Calum I. Macleod at the Wednesday night prayer meeting 21st October 2009. This sermon is about faith, the elements of faith and the works of faith. Although Joshua had the promises of God concerning victory over Jericho he still formed a battle plan, believing that God would bless his plans. Also, the spies ventured out in faith and God led them to Rahab, who was the only believer in the city. And Rahab herself had ‘saving faith’. She had heard of God’s plan, she was persuaded of His power and she trusted in His mercy. Her mind, her emotions and her will were all turned toward God. She had both faith and works and she was justified before God.
The text is Joshua 2:1…And Joshua the son of Nun sent out of Shittim two men to spy secretly, saying, Go view the land, even Jericho. And they went, and came into an harlot’s house, named Rahab, and lodged there.

Thank you for this excellent service. As a member of your congregation I have found it a useful tool for evangelisation. I have sent the link for this page to a family member and encouraged them to listen to the sermon, being convinced of the excellency of the preaching, and the ease with which such preaching can be listened to again.
The Lord bless the spreading of his Word through these means, to the increase of His glory.
