The following sermon was preached by Rev. Calum I. Macleod on the Sabbath Evening, 7th March, 2010. This sermon explains how the Gospel is not simply a revelation of truth to the intellect. To the converted man, it is the power of God at work in his whole being; it is an enlightenment. The love of God is shed abroad in their hearts by the Holy Ghost and the light of the glorious gospel has shone in them. The unconverted man cannot understand the things of the Spirit of God because the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not. Dear listener, here is an invitation to seek Christ and be saved but, “If you cannot see your need to be saved, then be afraid, for you are blind.”
The text is 2 Corinthians 4:3-6…But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them. For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus’ sake. For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.
