The following sermon was preached by Rev. Calum I. Macleod on the Sabbath Morning, 6th of December, 2009.
The text is Titus 2:11-14…For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.
we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world
The following sermon was preached by Alasdair Macleod (Divinity Student) on the Sabbath Evening 27th September 2009. The leaven of the Pharisees was hypocrisy. They had an outward appearance of religion without the reality. The leaven of Herod was worldliness and self-seeking. Here are two extremes; an emphasis on outward tradition on the one hand and a carelessness toward God on the other. What is the alternative? It is, “the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.” This sermon is call to heart purity. Our focus must be on our heart relationship with God, a relationship that begins alone with The Lord in the closet and is built in private prayer and fellowship with Him.
The text is Mark 8:15…And he charged them, saying, Take heed, beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, and of the leaven of Herod.
beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, and of the leaven of Herod.
