The Cross
Introduction:
1. Its origin:
God’ sovereign plan: (v. 6) …at the right time…
Paul writes to the Galatians: when the time had fully come… Peter preached: This man (Jesus) was handed over to you by God’ set purpose and foreknowledge.
God’s love: (v. 8) Jesus died on the cross for God so loved the world.
2. Its nature:
Surprising: (v. 7-8)
Vicarious: …for the ungodly
3. Its message:
The gravity of our sins: The death of Jesus belonged to us. Death is what our sins deserve. We are called …ungodly…sinners…enemies…
Our inability: …when we were weak (powerless)
God’s righteousness:
God’s love:
God’s will: The cross teaches that God’s pleasure is not our death but our salvation!
God’s only way of salvation: The cross teaches us that there is only one way to be right with God, and that it Jesus. If there was another way God would not have had his beloved Son crucified!
4. Its fruits:
Justification: (v. 9)
Salvation from divine wrath: (v. 9)
Reconciliation: (v. 10)
Joy: (v. 11)
